General de Gaulle, as head of the Free French Forces, authorised this bronze medal on the 9th of Febuary 1943 to acknowledge the courage of the members of the French Resistance.

Under the Lorraine cross on the obverse, the starting date of the German occupation of France, 17th of June 1940 in Roman numerals. The reverse reads " PATRIA / NON / IMMEMOR " (The fatherland is not forgetting). It has the correct assay mark, and most important it is an original first strike. It ceased to be awarded on 31 March 1947 except for deportees and the interned to whom it could be awarded posthumously. A good vintage original example of an increasingly hard-to-find medal.
